PHILADELPHIA - La Salle Baseball dropped a 12-3 decision to Duquesne on Saturday afternoon in the rubber match of its Atlantic 10 Conference series at Hank DeVincent Field. However, Brendan Norton and John Malloy both extended a pair of streaks, while Brian Meagher registered a pair of extra base hits.
Duquesne (6-20, 2-4 A-10) jumped out on the Explorers with four runs in the third and four more on a grand slam home run by Mark Tracy in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
In the bottom of the frame, Malloy singled up the middle to extend his conference-only hitting streak to 22 straight games and with it reached base for the 44th straight game.
Meagher followed with his team-leading third triple of the season to right center scoring Malloy. It was one of two extra base hits for the senior as he later doubled in the fifth inning, the 34th of his career to tie him for the ninth-most in a career in the Blue and Gold.
Norton plated Meagher with an infield single to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight games and later scored on a Jeff Flax single marking the 10th consecutive contest he has crossed the plate.
The Dukes responded with three more in the fifth inning and then added a single run in the eighth to seal their victory.
La Salle (8-16, 4-2 A-10) is next in action on Tuesday, when the Explorers host Villanova in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic at 3 PM at Hank DeVincent Field, a schedule change. Then, they will play the second round game on Wednesday before heading out to Cincinnati to face Xavier in their next A-10 series next weekend.
