Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle softball team dropped a 5-1 contest to Saint Joseph's on Friday afternoon in the first of two games of the series. The second game is set for noon on Saturday.

The Explorers (13-25-1) jumped on the board first in the top of the second when DJ Guinn came in on a Liz Reed single through the right side.

However, the Hawks responded with two in the bottom of the frame with solo home runs. They added three more in the fifth on a Bernadette Moran three-run home run to right center.

Gina Massaro bunted for a single with one out in the seventh, but the Explorers could not get another baserunner on for the final 5-1 score.

Massaro went 2-for-4 at the plate while earning the start in the circle. She went two innings, giving up two runs on two hits and striking out four. Guinn finished the final four innings, giving up three runs on six hits, striking out two and walking two.

The Explorers return to action for the second game of the series against the Hawks at noon on Saturday at West Campus Field.
