PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Trevor Donovan won a three-and-a-half hour match at sixth singles to break a 3-3 tie to give the La Salle men's tennis team a 4-3 victory over visiting George Mason on Friday afternoon. Head coach Ed Colfer called it the best win in his nine-year tenure in charge of the program.
"It was a tremendous win for the team this year and for our program," Colfer said. "It definitley helps out confidence. Everyone played out of their minds today."
Donovan captured a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory to clinch the win and also teamed with Chris Harvey for a 8-5 win at #3 doubles. La Salle won the fourth through sixth spots in singles and won the doubles point.
Sophomore Bill Nason and freshman Fernando Tovia also won matches at #4 and #5.
La Salle, which improves to 16-7, visits Moravian on Saturday. George Mason falls to 8-14.
