PHILADELPHIA - La Salle senior Gabrielle Nolt tied the score with a goal in the 20th minute but Rider scored three unanswered goals to win the season opener for both teams, 4-1, on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon at DeVincent Field.

Nolt followed Marlaine Schneider's tally in the 15th minute with her fourth career goal. It came after a scrum in front of the cage and the senior was able to beat RU goalkeeper Rachel Yacovett.

"We had intensity but we needed to bring it up a few more levels," Nolt said. "The biggest thing to work on this week is wanting to compete. We have a week of practice to get ready."

Unfortunately, the preseason NEC favorite controlled play for the rest of the contest. Alicia Govannici scored in the 27th minute to make it 2-1 before halftime. Reigning conference player of the year Virginia Egusquiza had the assist.

The Broncs added two more in the second half. Jackie Adams scored in the 59th minute and Megan Pisani added an insurance goal from Egusquiza in the 66th minute.

La Salle (0-1) senior Emma Ruth made eight saves, while Yacovett made two stops in her first collegiate action.

Rider outshot La Salle, 25-7, and held a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Explorers return to the field on Saturday with a visit to Georgetown. The contest will be played at American University.
