Dolhansky Nets Third In 1-1 Tie With Greyhounds

Sept. 12, 2010

Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - La Salle Women's Soccer, for only the ninth time in school history, went into overtime for the second straight contest and registered a 1-1 double overtime tie with the host Loyola (MD) Greyhounds at Ridley Athletic Complex Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

Loyola (MD) (2-4-1) got on the board first exactly 39 minutes into the game as Nichole Schiro scored her third goal of the season, a header, off an assist from Kelly Farrell, who started the play with a free kick.

La Salle (4-2-1) answered back just 39 seconds after the break as Leigh Gray, who was in her first game back after missing two weeks to injury, had a breakaway chance. Greyhound goalie Danielle Ippolito made the initial save, but the rebound was put home by Anna Dolhansky, her third of the season as well.

The Explorers continued to get chances in the second half and in overtime to break the tie, attempting 16 second-half shots and 28 in the game, however Ippolito kept them out of the net with 14 saves on the afternoon. La Salle netminder Gabby Pakhtigian made a season-high seven saves in the game and kept Loyola (MD) off the board for the last 71 minutes of play.

For only the second time in school history, La Salle went into overtime after winning the previous match in overtime, as the Explorers defeated Central Connecticut State in double OT, 2-1, in their last game.

The only other time happened during the 2000 season, when La Salle defeated Seton Hall 2-1 in double OT on Sept. 2, then lost at Delaware 2-1 on Sept. 5.

With the Explorers registering the tie with the Greyhounds, it marked just the second time in 25 seasons of women's soccer that La Salle had not lost a game in a back-to-back overtime situations. The previous time that happened was in 2008, when the Explorers tied Temple 1-1 (10/17) and then defeated Saint Joseph's, 2-1, in double overtime (10/19).

Looking ahead, only one time in the school history have the Explorers played three straight overtime games, which was during the 1999 season - to George Washington (10/3) in single overtime, and at St. Bonaventure (10/8) and at Duquesne (10/10), both in double overtime.

La Salle is next in action this weekend as they take part in the Atlantic 10/Colonial Athletic Association Shootout at Newark, DE next weekend. The Explorers face the hosts Delaware Blue Hens, Friday at 7:30, before facing Drexel on Sunday with a 12 PM kickoff.
