EASTON, Pa. -
Kelly Scanlon notched her second double-double in as many matches, but it wasn't enough to push the Explorers past Lafayette in their opening contest of the Lafayette Invitational. La Salle fell 3-1 by set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 17-25 and 21-25.
Scanlon contributed 13 kills and ten digs and paced La Salle's attack along with Jacquelyn Mitrovich, who also tallied 13 kills.
Kourtney Clark added a match-high 34 assists, while Breanna Mazalewski led in digs category with 20. Lafayette's Kayly Elmer led all attackers with 14 kills.
In the first set, the Explorers closed the gap on an early 5-1 Lafayette lead, but couldn't stop the 5-1 Leopards' run that closed the set.
La Salle played a strong second frame, hitting at a .250 clip and holding the Leopards to a -.167 attack percentage en route to a 25-15 victory.
In the remaining two sets, the Blue and Gold let Lafayette tally nine and seven point leads that were too much to overcome.
Carly Conlon and Alex Kennedy, sidelined with injuries in the early portion of the season, made their first appearances for the Explorers this year.
La Salle will face Quinnipiac and Delaware State on Saturday in its remaining two games of the tournament.
