Sept. 17, 2010

Box Score

FARMVILLE, VA - Sophomores Rebecca Chylack and Neelam Kumar gave La Salle a 2-1 lead early in the first half but three second half VCU goals pushed the Rams past the Explorers, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Longwood University. Senior Beth Carey had two assists and moved into fourth place on the school's all-time assist list.

"We played a very good team today and although I'm not pleased with the outcome, I am happy with our effort and fight," head coach Michelle Marks said.

VCU (4-3) scored in the third minute of the game but La Salle answered quickly to take an early lead. At the 3:36 mark, Chylack rocketed home a shot off a penalty corner to tie the game. Carey and Kumar had the assists.

Then in the ninth minute, Kumar scored off another penalty corner off a pass from Carey.

"I thought we played a really good first half," Marks said. "We came out strong, took it to them and executed nicely on two corners."

The Rams tied the score four minute after halftime and added two more goals in the second half to secure the victory.

"In the second half, VCU came out strong and fast and we wound up playing a lot of defense," Marks continued. "Scoring opportunities in the second half were rare for us; we need to find a way to be an attacking team for 70 minutes.

Senior Emma Ruth had 12 saves and earned the coaching staff's "Player of the Game."

"Emma again had a great game and came up with some exceptional saves," Marks said.

The Rams out-shot La Salle, 23-6, and held 12-6 advantage in corners.

The Explorers (2-4) will take on Longwood on Saturday at noon.
