Sept. 3, 2010

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Glenroy Chapman put the La Salle up in the first half, but visiting Bucknell stormed back with three second half goals as the Explorers fell 3-1 in their season opener at McCarthy Stadium on Friday.

Chapman snagged a loose ball at about the 35 yard line and dribbled for about 20 yards before one-timing it into the goal in the 23rd minute to put the Explorers ahead of the defending Patriot League champions. Chapman finished with three shots, all of which were on goal.

The remainder of the first half was evenly played, with Bucknell leading the shot category 7-5 at the half and neither team registering a corner kick.

The Bison got their first of three goals in the 59th minute as Ross Liberati scored his first of two on a pass from Tommy McCabe followed by a scramble in front of the net. They added another goal 11 minutes later when Josh Plump scored on a corner kick in the 70th minute, and Liberati added one more in the 73rd minute.

The visitors held the shot advantage, 20-13, and corner kicks 6-2.

Kyle Quigley manned the goalposts for the Explorers, registering 11 saves, eight of which were in the second half. Tommy Caso earned the win in goal, making five saves.

The Explorers now embark on a seven-game road trip, kicked off at Penn on Sunday at 7:00 PM.
