Men's Soccer Falls 5-0 at Penn

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision at Soccer 6 rival Penn on Sunday evening. The Explorers fall to 0-2 on the young season, while the Quakers move to 2-0.

Ryan Richter led the Explorers with five shot attempts, including two close shots that were stopped by Quaker goalkeeper Ben Berg.

The Quakers got on the board in the 23rd minute on a Jason Gorskie goal and Christian Barreiro added an insurance goal in the 31st minute. With the score at 2-0 at the half, the Quakers put the game out of reach with two goals in a one-minute span in the 63rd and 64th minutes. Stephen Baker came off the bench to lead the home team with five points, scoring two second-half goals and assisting on another in the second stanza.

Kyle Quigley started in goal for the Explorers, playing 71 minutes and registering eight saves. John McCarthy saw the first action of his rookie year, finishing out the game and making three saves. Berg got the win in goal for the Quakers, stopping five shots.

The Explorers return to action on Friday (9/10) when they head to Lehigh for the second of seven straight road games. The Explorers and Mountain Hawks kick off at 7:00 PM.
