Gale Scores 29, But La Salle Falls To Fordham, 69-54

BRONX, N.Y. - Ashley Gale registered 29 points as the Explorers dropped their first Atlantic 10 contest of 2011, 69-54, to Fordham on Saturday afternoon.

Gale hit six three-pointers, tying her highest tally of the season.  Gale also sunk six treys against Liberty  (12/29/10) and Lehigh (1/4/11).  Ebonee Jones also  hit double figures for La Salle, notching 10 points. Nadia Duncan led the Explorers on the boards with seven rebounds.

Tiffany Stokes was one of four Fordham players who reached double figures, netting 17 points.

Fordham gained an early edge, but a three by freshman Michea Bryant tied the score up at 10 all with 12:29 remaining in the first half.  The Explorers then went cold from the floor for the five minutes as the Rams racked up a 28-10 lead.

Fordham was on top by as many as 20 points and La Salle went into the break trailing 39-23.

Gale scored La Salle's first five points of the second half.   Jess Koci cut the Rams' lead to ten at 43-33 three minutes into the half.  For the next three minutes both teams struggled offensively, with neither team hitting a basket.

Gale got the Explorers within three at 45-37 with thirteen minutes remaining in the game, but the Blue and Gold wouldn't get any closer.

La Salle shot .298 for the game, compared to Richmond's .442 clip.

The Explorers will next travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
