Richter, Dundon, Korenyi Honored By Philadelphia Soccer Six

Feb. 15, 2011

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle senior Ryan Richter (Southampton, PA/William Tennant) has been named 2010 Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year, it was announced at the organization’s annual banquet held at the University City Sheraton on Tuesday evening. Richter retained the honor, which he also won last season, by leading the city with 14 goals and helping the Explorers make a late-season push and advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship game. Junior Nick Dundon (Horsham, PA/Wisconsin-Milwaukee) was named the John McAdams Co-Academic Player of the Year Award, while Richter and junior Dan Korenyi (Cinnaminson, NJ / Cinnaminson) were named to the Soccer Six All-Star team.

Richter led the city in scoring for the second year in a row with 14 goals and 30 points. He was also named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year and was recognized as a NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American and an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team All-District selection. He became the second Explorer to be drafted by the MLS when the hometown Philadelphia Union selected him fifth overall in the MLS Supplemental Draft.

Richter is the first multi-year recipient of Soccer Six Player of the Year honors since Temple’s Patrick Hannigan repeated as the winner in 2003 and 2004. He joins Philadelphia Textile’s Tim Kileen (1981-82) and Guy Fufaro (1986, 88) and fellow Explorer Cesidio Colasante (1995-97) as the only repeat winners of the award.

Dundon and Penn’s Aaron Ross were named co-recipients of the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year Award. Dundon, who owns a grade point average of 3.95 as a junior biology major, capped off a strong season for the midfielder-turned-defender. He was a big part of a defense that posted eight shutouts en route to the Atlantic 10 title game, including a semifinal shutout of defending Atlantic 10 champion Saint Louis.

In addition to NSCAA Scholar All-America and Academic All-East Region First Team, he was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team and Academic All-District First Team. He was also an Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference pick.

Korenyi, who was also a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree, started the season at midfield before moving back to defense in the season's final six games. In those six games, he helped anchor the La Salle defense in a stretch that saw the team go 5-0-1 in league play and defend two 1-0 wins and a 1-1 double overtime tie. Korenyi has started all 55 possible games of his career and has two career goals as a defender/defensive midfielder.

Penn’s Stephen Baker received the Soccer Six William “Bill” Wilkinson Freshman of the Year while Quakers’ coach Rudy Fuller was honored with his fifth Bill Harris Coach of the Year Award. Both the Quakers and Drexl went 2-0 in Soccer Six matches during the season to earn a share of the league’s Team of the Year Award.

The league also announced its 2010 All-Star Team.
