Senior Ashley Gale scored 17 points but the La Salle women's basketball team suffered a 77-60 loss to Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon at Hagan Arena. Sophomore Alexis Scott had 15 points and Nadia Duncan added 12 off the bench.
La Salle trailed by two at the half, but the Hawks controlled play in the second half, outscoring the visitors, 39-24, in the stanza.
The Explorers (9-18, 5-7 A-10, 0-4 Big 5) cut the deficit to seven, 55-48, at the midway point of the second half, but Saint Joseph's answered with a 7-2 spurt to take go up 62-50 on a three pointer by senior forward Dominique Bryant. The Explorers would never come any closer from there.
As a team, La Salle shot just 37.9 percent (22-of-58), but hit 41.7 percent from three-point range (5-of-12) and 91.7 percent from the foul line (11-of-12).
La Salle is back in action in its final home game on Wednesday vs. Richmond. A ceremony honoring seniors Chelsea Conner and Ashley Gale will begin at approximately 6:45 PM with tip-off set for 7 PM.
