TAMPA, FLA- In second day action of the University of South Florida's Under Armour Showcase tournament, the Explorers fell to Central Connecticut State 10-4 prior to being downed by No. 16 Nebraska, 9-0 in a mercy-ruled five innings.
The Cornhuskers jumped on the Explorers by putting up a five-spot in the first inning. La Salle managed to get just three baserunners off of right handed pitcher Haley Workman, as freshman Megan Hodgson singled and walked before sophomore Tristan Musho's slapped a base-hit to shortstop to lead off the fifth inning.
Despite senior DJ Guinn's scoreless fourth inning, the Explorers never broke into Nebraska's lead, as the Cornhuskers socred two runs in the second and third frames to extend their lead.
Against CCSU, juniors Heather Brabazon and Shannon Skomorucha each scored a run and went 3-for-4 to help La Salle pound out a season-high 12 hits against the Blue Devils.
La Salle opened the game with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Blue Devils matched the Explorers production with a three-spot of their own.
The Explorers tied the game at four in the fourth inning, only for CCSU to respond once again as it tacked on three more runs to get out to a 7-4 lead. CCSU extended its lead to six runs when it scored three more runs in the fifth.
With a 2-12 record now, La Salle will look to make improvements when it wraps up the USF Under Armour Classic and finishes Spring Break play in Florida when it battles the Conncecticut Huskies Sunday. The first pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m. The game will be streamed live here.
