Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Baseball Past Coppin State

March 15, 2011

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle baseball team scored at least one run in every inning except the second and Shane Petrellis pitched seven strong frames in a 10-3 victory over Coppin State on Tuesday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.

"Shane didn't have his best stuff today but he threw strikes and kept the ball down," said head coach Mike Lake. "The offense did what it had to do to push some runs across for us."

The Explorers (7-8) won their third straight game and began a nine-game home stand with a positive offensive and defensive performance. La Salle pounded out 14 hits and committed just one error in the contest.

Brendan Norton led the offensive attack with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Dan Klem also added three hits and two runs with an RBI and John Gyles reached based safely all five times he stepped to the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

Petrellis allowed just three hits and one earned run through seven quality frames. The right-hander only allowed one free pass and struck out two batters.

Joe Nestor and Caolan Ronan finished off the final two innings to preserve the victory.

La Salle will continue the home stand this week with a weekend series against Manhattan, St. Peters and New York Tech. Saturday's game against St. Peters will be a doubleheader. Friday's game against Manhattan is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
