PHILADELPHIA, PA - Cody Weiss and Eric Van Wyk each turned in quality starts and the La Salle bats came up with timely hits as the Explorers swept a doubleheader over Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.

"They weren't pretty, but they were wins," said head coach Mike Lake.

The victory marks the sixth straight win for La Salle as the Explorers (10-8) improve to a perfect 5-0 at home so far this season.

Brendan Norton and Jon Gyles were the offensive heroes in game one. Gyles, who had the game-winning hit in yesterday's comeback win, sparked La Salle again with a bases-clearing three-run double in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie.

The Peacocks (3-12) tied the game at 6-6 with one run in the seventh followed by two in the eighth to send the game into extra innings.

Pat Christensen pitched two scoreless frames in the ninth and 10th, setting the stage for Norton's heroics in the bottom half of the 10th.

"I just went up there and tried to help the team win as best I could," Norton said.

The junior standout laced an RBI double to right field, plating Dan Klem and sending La Salle to their second consecutive walk-off victory.

In game two, Cody Weiss was the star for La Salle pitching 6.1 strong innings and picking up his third victory of the year. Weiss (3-2) allowed two runs (one earned) off three hits with two walks and three stirkeouts in the 3-1 La Salle victory.

Adam Kammler broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a bases loaded walk. It was the only RBI in the game for the Explorers who recorded the other two runs via wild pitches.

La Salle will wrap up the Big 5 Baseball Bash on Sunday with a noon matchup against New York Tech.
