Seven Heaven: Baseball Wins Seventh Straight on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA, PA – For the first time in the Mike Lake era, the La Salle baseball team clinched its seventh straight victory with a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon over New York Tech at Hank DeVincent Field.

Shane Petrellis (2-1) won his second game of the week with a strong seven-inning performance. The righty allowed three runs (three earned) off five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Explorers (11-8) haven’t lost since the opening game of the Morehead State series back on March 11. La Salle is also a perfect 6-0 at home.

Marc Schoch had the best offensive performance of the day and went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

The Bears (1-9) took an early 2-0 lead when Sebastian Grazziani took Petrellis deep in the second inning.

La Salle responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame before New York Tech retook the lead in the third with another run. RBI singles by Tony Negrin and Dan Klem leapfrogged La Salle back on top 4-3 in the fourth.

Schoch added his only RBI of the game with a double in the fifth that put La Salle on top 5-3. New York Tech committed four errors in the game but only one of La Salle’s seven runs were unearned.

Kevin Christy came on in relief of Petrellis in the eighth and earend a six-out save, his first of the season.

La Salle will look for its eighth straight win on Tuesday against Big 5 rival Villanova. First pitch scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at Hank DeVincent Field.
