BRONX, NY- In a two-game set with the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, the Explorers were unable to outlast their opponent in both chances. La Salle was stunned on a walk-off base-hit in the seventh inning of game one, losing 3-2, before dropping a 7-6 decision after a comeback effort in the second game.

After having a little over a week off due to a postponed doubleheader with Saint Peter's earlier in the week, the Explorers offense seemed rejuvenated on Sunday as it combined for 17 hits in the two games against the Bonnies.

Senior DJ Guinn kept the Explorers in both ball games, as she went 5.0 innings and tossed four strikeouts in each of the two games against St. Bonaventure. On the day, Guinn totaled 10.0 innings of work, allowed 10 hits, threw eight strikeouts and was charged with only three runs.

(Game 1): St. Bonaventure took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the first game on senior Maureen Wells' solo home run.

La Salle immediately matched the Bonnies' production when junior Breanna DiTommaso scored after back-to-back St. Bonaventure fielding errors.

DiTommaso went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game.

Deadlocked at one, St. Bonaventure found a way to get back on top. Freshman Ashley Snider hit a solo shot of her own, to put the Bonnies up 2-1.

Again, La Salle had an answer when it came to bat in the sixth. Freshman Emily Moran singled into center field to score freshman Danielle Cullen from second base to tie the game at two.

Sullivan scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when Wells singled into right field with one out to hand La Salle another heartbreaking loss.

(Game 2): La Salle found itself in a 5-0 hole entering the third inning of game one before it began to fight back and eventually even up the game at six a piece.

Sophomore Liz Reed got the Explorers on the board to make it 5-1 when she singled into left field to score freshman Emily Moran, who led off the inning with a walk and then was moved to second on a base-hit by junior Breanna DiTommaso.

The Explorers gave the run right back to the Bonnies in their ensuing at-bat, as junior Kristin Sullivan scored on a fielding error in center field.

Freshman Jackie McBride went 2-for-3 and hit a two-run home run against the Bonnies in Sunday's second game.

In the fourth inning, the Explorers continued to chip away at the deficit. La Salle put up two more runs when freshman Jackie McBride smashed a two-run home run into right field to reduce the swelling and make it a 6-3 St. Bonaventure lead.

McBride finished the game with four RBIs as she went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The home run was the second of her rookie season.

La Salle tacked on three more runs to tie the ballgame right after Guinn held the Bonnies scoreless in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

With the bases loaded and no body out, Guinn singled to shortstop to score freshman Jamie Dellinger. McBride continued her big afternoon when she doubled to bring in two more runs, which evened the score at six.

With runners on the corners in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bonnies called for a double steal. Sophomore Jessenia Andujar successfully stole home plate to reclaim the lead-and eventually the win-for the Bonnies.

The Explorers (2-17, 0-4) take a break from Atlantic 10 Conference play and will host their first game of the season at West Field on Wednesday when they host the University of Pennsylvania at 4 PM.
