PHILADELPHIA, PA - For the second straight day, Fordham was able to control the tempo of the game on the mound in a 7-1 series-clinching victory over La Salle on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
"You're not going to win a lot of college baseball games when you only get three hits," said head coach Mike Lake. Fordham starter Max Krakowiak was brilliant in a complete game gem that saw him force 17 outs via the groundball to go along with three strikeouts and only one walk.
The Explorers (13-10, 1-2) scored their only run in the fourth inning after a walk by Jon Gyles came around to score on an RBI groundout by Marc Schoch.
Jeff Flax had two of the three La Salle hits in the game and went 2-for-4. Schoch had the only other hit for La Salle and went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Cody Weiss got the start for La Salle put in a hard-fought seven innings of work. Weiss allowed six runs (five earned) off seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
La Salle has now dropped two straight after their nine-game winning streak was snapped yesterday. The Explorers will be back on the diamond on Tuesday afternoon with a mid-week matchup against Penn at 3 p.m. Live audio of the game will be available on www.goexplorers.com.
