DURHAM, NC - A furious six-run eighth-inning rally in game two of a doubleheader fell short as Duke swept La Salle on Saturday at Jack Coombs Field.

The Explorers (4-5) trailed 9-1 heading into the eighth inning of game two before the bats came alive.

Eric Kammler, George Smith Jr. and Jeff Flax each had RBI hits in the inning for La Salle who fell two runs short of erasing an eight-run deficit.

In game one of the twin-bill, La Salle received another stellar pitching performance from LHP Eric Van Wyk. The junior went six shutout innings and allowed only five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Van Wyk (1-0) earned a no decision in Saturday's loss and lowered his ERA on the season to a miniscule 0.75 thru his first two starts.

After Van Wyk exited, Duke broke a scoreless tie in the eighth with a four-run inning, setting the stage for game two's comeback attempt to salvage the final game of the three-game series.

La Salle will continue the spring break road trip this week with a mid-week set against Appalachian State beginning on Tuesday.

The trip will conclude next weekend with a three-game weekend series against Morehead State
