RICHMOND, VA – Marc Schoch homered for the second straight day but the La Salle baseball team fell to Richmond 9-2 on Saturday afternoon at Pitt Field.
Schoch’s two-run blast in the fourth inning was the only offense of the afternoon La Salle, who recorded nine hits in the contest.
The Explorers (23-17, 10-7) could not hold the lead for long, as Richmond pushed across eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game.
Eric Van Wyk suffered his first loss of the season on the mound and allowed six runs off six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
The Spiders (22-18-2, 9-5) pulled ahead of La Salle in the A-10 standings and clinched the season-series with Saturday’s victory.
La Salle will try to salvage the final game of the set on Sunday afternoon. RHP Shane Petrellis will start on the mound for the Explorers.
