La Salle Baseball Upends Richmond 7-3

RICHMOND, VA - The La Salle baseball team salvaged the final game of the three-game set against Richmond, winning 7-5 on Sunday at Pitt Field.

Brendan Norton and Eric Kammler each recorded three hits in the game and La Salle got off to a quick 3-0 lead against Richmond starter Matt Trent. Norton finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs a walk and a stolen base. Kammler went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

The Explorers (24-17, 11-7) received a solid start from Shane Petrellis, who earned his fifth win of the season and pitched five quality frames. The right-hander allowed three runs off four hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

After Richmond cut La Salle's 4-1 lead to 4-3 in the fifth, the Explorers answered with a three-run sixth inning highlighted by RBI singles from Jon Gyles and Kammler. Gyles finished the game 2-for-5 with two RBI and extended his on-base streak to 39 games.

The La Salle bullpen was able to get the job done in the latter innings, with Kevin Christy and Pat Christensen hurling scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth to seal the win.

Christensen was able to earn the save, his conference-best 12th of the season.

La Salle will have the week off before returning to action next Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader at Marist.
