Baseball Upended by Rider 10-4

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider scored 10 runs in the first five innings and held on late to earn a 10-4 win over the La Salle baseball team on Wednesday afternoon from Sonny Pittaro Field.

George Smith Jr. paced La Salle offensively and went 3-for-4 with three doubles and an RBI. Joe Bennie also had a productive afternoon scored two runs and went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

The Explorers (25-20) got on the board in the third when Brendan Norton ripped an RBI single to left that plated Bennie and made the score 6-1. Norton reached base safely three times in the game and went 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.

La Salle added two more in the sixth on a two-run double from Marc Schoch who finished the day 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Smith’s third double of the day knocked home the game’s final run in the eighth. Bennie scored on the play making the final tally 10-4.

The Explorers will have one final home stand that begins on Friday against conference-foe Charlotte. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Hank DeVincent Field.

The series against the 49ers will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon with the four-game home stand wrapping up next Tuesday against Saint Joseph’s.
