PHILADELPHIA - Recent La Salle graduate Steve Weingarten has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball team, in voting conducted by the area's 28 sports information offices.

Weingarten was also named the Atlantic 10 and Big 5 Student-Athlete of the Year this season and carries a 3.86 GPA as a dual major in history and American studies. He has been a two-time CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District First Team selection and also received Academic All-Atlantic 10 honors this winter.

He was awarded a postgraduate scholarship from the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association and was honored on the I-AAA National Scholar-Athlete team for the second straight season. Weingarten was also honored with La Salle's Academic Excellence Award, presented to the graduating student-athlete with the highest GPA.

The Baltimore, MD native is joined on the five-man team by Performer of the Year Sharif Bray (Cheyney), Adewale Adefemi (University of the Sciences), Juan Fernandez (Temple) and Mouphtao Yaou (Villanova).
