City of Basketball Love coverage of student open practice
PHILADELPHIA – La Salle students flocked to Tom Gola Arena on Tuesday afternoon for the Explorers' first student open practice, hosted by the men's basketball team. The opportunity was the student body's first taste of the2012-13 Explorers and offered an up close and personal look into a daily practice routine.
Head coach
Dr. John Giannini rallied the 200-plus onlookers at the beginning of practice and spoke on the rich basketball tradition at La Salle and his appreciation of the constant support the program receives.
The cheerleaders and dance team rooted on their fellow classmates, giving the event an energetic feel, especially during the 30-minute scrimmage. At the conclusion of practice, pizza, pretzels, and soda were given out while members of the team circulated, individually thanking students for their support.
Despite some jitters, Giannini found the open practice to be beneficial for his players.
“I thought we had a lot more bad shots and turnovers than we have been having in practice,” Giannini told
City of Basketball Love. “I think they got a little bit exited, but that's good to get out of your system.”
La Salle begins its season on November 2 at 7 p.m. in an exhibition contest vs. Carleton University at Tom Gola Arena.
