Marc Schoch went 4-for-4 and hit a walk-off RBI single in the ninth to lift La Salle past Buffalo 7-6 on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers have now won two in a row as Schoch raised his average over 40 points on the day from .321 to .367.
In the second inning,
Adam Kammler got the Explorers on the board first with an RBI triple into the gap in right-center. The next batter, Schoch, recorded his first hit of the day and knocked Kammler home with an RBI single to put La Salle up 2-0.
The Bulls (6-7) answered in the top of the third with four runs off La Salle starter
Eric Van Wyk, who earned a no decision in the game. Three of the runs coming off Van Wyk in the third came off back-to-back home runs by Tom Murphy and Dan Scahill.
Van Wyk (2-2) lasted seven innings in the game and allowed five runs off 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Joe Bennie cut Buffalo's lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the third with an RBI groundout that plated Kammler for the second time in the game.
Down by two in the sixth, a throwing erorr by Buffalo starting pitcher Cameron Copping led to the tying runs for La Salle that evened the game at 5-5.
In the seventh, a sac fly by Schoch put the Explorers on top 6-5 but Buffalo had an answer in the eighth and tied the game off La Salle closer
Pat Christensen. Christensen (2-1) pitched a scoreless ninth and went 1.2 frames total to earn his second win of the season.
The Explorers (8-8) will continue the Big 5 Baseball Bash on Saturday with a match up against Saint Peter's. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Hank DeVincent Field with
