The visiting Millersville Marauders club water polo squad came into Kirk Pool in Philadelphia Thursday night, scored on their first possession and never looked back.
After netting their first goal seconds after the initial sprint, the Marauders added two more unanswered to build a 3-0 early lead. The La Salle Explorers answered with a goal of their own to cut the Marauder lead to two, but this proved to be the closest they would get in the match.
Carrying a 6-2 lead into the second period, Millersville added three more goals, completing a dominating first half of play. At times throughout the half the Explorers kept the Marauder goalkeeper busy, but he proved fit for the task, turning away eight shots.
Though devoid of scoring, the second half of the match featured its fair share of action. Each squad's goalkeeper was forced to make seven saves, and three Marauder shots connected with the post.
The overmatched Explorer club team showed glimpses of pressure throughout the game, but was never able to gain momentum against the talented Marauder squad, bowing 12-2.
La Salle will face crosstown rival Saint Joseph's University at home next Tuesday night at 8:30 PM still in search of their first win of the year.
