KINGSTON, RI – The women's swim and dive team placed second at the Rhode Island Invitational, recording 395 points, enough to edge URI by a mere two points.
The Explorers were led by strong performances from senior
Elizabeth Jordan and sophomore
Amina Wilson. Jordan earned a pair of wins in the 50 yard freestyle (24.74) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.02) while Wilson notched victories in the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes in 59.49 and 2:06.99, respectively.
Also recording a first place finish was sophomore
Colleen Larkin in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:20.34. Larkin added a second place finish in the 400 yard IM, clocking in at 4:38.26.
Senior
Jessica Simunek picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly and the 200 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in times of 58.97 and 2:24.70, respectively.
In first overall was Massachusetts with 545 points, third was URI with 393 points and finishing fourth was George Washington with 369 points. The Explorers are back in action on Saturday, January 19
th when they travel to the Bronx to take on Fordham.
