Men's Basketball Named National Team Of The Week By ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated.com; Receiving Votes In Polls

News/TV Coverage Summary

PHILADELPHIA
- After a week in which the La Salle men's basketball team defeated a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, the Explorers were named the "Team of the Week" by ESPN.com and SportsIllustrated.com.

ESPN.com
"The Explorers knocked off ranked teams -- Butler at home and VCU on the road -- in consecutive games for the first time since the 1952 NIT. La Salle has a big-time talent who gets little pub in Ramon Galloway. All he did was score 31 points on the Rams, giving VCU only its third loss in 26 home games.

La Salle now has to be taken seriously in the A-10. The wins over Butler and VCU were not a fluke. John Giannini has been building toward this season for years. The patience will be rewarded with a team that is suddenly in the hunt for an NCAA berth or at the very least a real threat to win the conference tournament."

SportsIllustrated.com
"The Fast Break is feeling the brotherly love. Both these teams have had their struggles this season, yet each of them knocked off a pair ranked squads last week. In La Salle's case, that was even more impressive because it included a road victory at then-No. 19 VCU behind 31 points from senior guard Ramon Galloway. That win came just three days after the Explorers beat Butler at home by a point. It was the first time La Salle notched consecutive wins over ranked teams in more than 60 years." - Seth Davis

In addition, the Explorers (14-5, 4-2 A-10) received three votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.
