PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's basketball team was selected to participate in the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, it was announced today on the CBS Selection Show. The Explorers, a No. 13 seed in the west region, will square up against No. 13 Boise State on Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on truTV at 9:10 PM.
"We're thrilled to be in the NCAA Tournament and hear our name called with the best teams in the country," head coach
Dr. John Giannini said after he heard his team's selection. "I think our guys work at it as hard as anyone anywhere so obviously they're kids we like, they've done great things for La Salle and we're just thrilled that these guys get rewarded. They really deserve it."
"We are so proud and happy for Dr John, the student-athletes, staff, alumni and fans of the program," Director of Athletics
Dr. Tom Brennan said. "Wednesday is the exact 150th anniversary date for the charter of La Salle University. Men's basketball has a way of bringing together the entire La Salle community. We know that Explorers everywhere will be cheering on the team on Wednesday night."
"It gives us something to be extremely happy about," senior
Ramon Galloway said. "The NCAA Tournament is up there with the Super Bowl and the Olympics so it's a great opportunity to be there."
The 21-9 Explorers and the 21-10 Broncos have never met before. La Salle finished 11-5 in the Atlantic 10 and Boise State ended the regular season 9-7 in the Mountain West. Both teams were bounced in their respective conference tournament quarterfinals.
The winner of La Salle-Boise State will head to Kansas City and take on No. 4 Kansas State on Friday.
