Rodney Green To Play In The-BALL For Philly; Team Coached By Explorer Great Larry Cannon

PHILADELPHIA - Former La Salle standout Rodney Green has agreed to play for the Philly team in The Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL) Series on August 5 at the Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University. The Philadelphia squad, comprised of recent alumni from fellow City 6 schools, will take on the DC Dobermans, made up of Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason and American alumni.

In addition to Green, La Salle Hall of Athletes and Big 5 Hall of Fame inductee Larry Cannon will coach the Philly team. Cannon was a member of the 1968-69 Explorer squad that went 23-1 and averaged 19.0 ppg. in three seasons before being drafted fifth overall in the 1969 NBA Draft.

The-BALL is a new summer-time professional basketball league for college basketball fans, which debuted with two showcase games last August.

The game will tip-off at 7 PM and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, Washington, D.C., and other East Coast markets. The contest will also be streamed live on ESPN3.

Tickets start as low as $8 and can be purchased by visiting http://the-ball.com/tickets/

The new league is designed to feature former college standouts from the local universities, giving the teams instant star power and a built-in fan base. The-BALL will run from June to August filling a void for basketball fans and giving top players a high-quality professional hoops alternative during their off-season break from the NBA D-League or international competition.

The-BALL is for those players that haven't landed in the NBA but still have a loyal following in the cities where they made a name for themselves while playing at the collegiate level.

Green, a three-time All-Big 5 selection and two-time All-Atlantic 10 pick, scored 1,914 points in his career to rank ninth all-time at La Salle. He was also ninth all-time in assists at LU with 390 and joined Donnie Carr as the only Explorers to rank in the top 10 in both categories.

The Philadelphia product also joined Lionel Simmons as the only Explorers with at least 600 rebounds and 300 assists. Only six other players in Big 5 history can boast those statistics.

Since graduating in 2010, Green has played professionally in Israel, the Ukraine and Italy. This past season, he averaged 18.1 ppg. and 4.1 rpg. for Monferrato in the Italy Lega Due-Gold.

He will be joined on the-BALL's Philadelphia team by Temple's Dionte Christmas, Penn's Zack Rosen, Villanova's Reggie Redding, Maurice Sutton and Mouphtao Yarou, Penn State's Talor Battle and Drexel's Frank Elegar.
