RICHMOND, Va. - The La Salle field hockey team suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of league-leading Richmond on Friday afternoon at Crenshaw Field. Junior goalkeeper Rachel Hartman had eight saves for the Explorers.

The game remained scoreless for most of the first half until the Spiders (6-6, 3-0 A-10) scored two goals in the final minutes before halftime. Taylor Deitrick found the back of the cage in the 30th minute while Kimberly Sportack made it 2-0 with 2:37 before intermission.

The Spiders added goals in the 46th, 50th and 65th minute to take home the victory.

Richmond had a 21-3 advantage in shots and a 10-1 lead in corners.

Junior Abbey Lawrence had two of La Salle's three shots.

The Explorers (4-7, 1-3 A-10) remain in Richmond to visit VCU on Sunday at noon.
