Explorers Fall in Pitcher's Duel 2-0 to Nova

VILLANOVA, Pa.- The La Salle softball team fell 2-0 in 11 innings at Villanova on Tuesday afternoon.

The two teams were locked in a pitcher's duel and remained scoreless until the bottom of the 11th inning when Mackenzie Tilles gave the Wildcats the victory with a walk off two run homer.

Freshman McKenzie Peace started the game in the circle and threw five scoreless innings allowing only three hits and a single walk while striking out two Villanova batters.

Junior Mary Cate Scott took over in the sixth inning and threw the remaining 5.1 innings and allowed six hits while walking three batters and recording five strikeouts. Scott was the bad luck losing pitcher as she was on the mound for the Nova walk off.

The Explorers were only able to muster four hits against Wildcat pitching with sophomores Michelle Hagarty, Mackenzie Obert and Kristin Martin and junior Erica Reis knocking hits on the evening.

Hagarty was able to reach base three times on the evening thanks to a pair of walks while Reis and Obert also reached base multiple times thanks to a hit and walk apiece.

La Salle threatened in the second inning as Reis started things off with a two out double to left center. She was moved over to third on a Obert single through the left side however the Explorers couldn't bring the pair home.

The Explorers again had a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning as freshman Angelina Refice one out walk and senior Linnette Siedler who pinch ran stole second. However, again the Wildcats were able to record a timely out to get out of the jam.

La Salle was also able to get out of their fair share of jams as they left ten Wildcats stranded on the base paths.

The Explorers return to action tomorrow as they host UMBC for a Wednesday doubleheader with first pitch at 2:30 from the West Campus Softball Field.
