Softball Drops Two to Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS- The La Salle softball team dropped a pair to Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon falling 5-2, 2-1. Sophomore Mackenzie Obert went 4-7 with a run scored on the day.

Game one saw the Explorers jump out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. After loading the bases with no outs senior Kristin Travers grounded out to second base to bring home senior Alicia Aughton who had walked earlier in the inning. However, La Salle wasn't able to further capitalize as they left two runners stranded to end the inning.

The Billikens got two back in the second on their way to four straight runs to jump out to a 4-1 lead heading to the sixth inning.

La Salle was able to get one back in the sixth as sophomore Michelle Hagarty pinch hit and hit a two-out single through the right side to bring home Christina Bascara who had reached to start the inning on an error. However the Billikens were able to again limit the damage as they recorded the final out to leave three Explorers stranded on the base paths.

Saint Louis added a run in the bottom half of the inning to bring the game to the final score of 5-2.

Obert had two hits in the game while Aughton also reached base twice via a hit and a base on balls.

The second half of the doubleheader was a much lower scoring affair. The host Billikens jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and that proved to be all the offense they needed.

La Salle grabbed one back in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. Obert led the inning off with a single and would ultimately score when sophomore Christina Bascara doubled down the left field line. However, Saint Louis was able to limit the damage again stranding three La Salle runners to preserve their lead.

The Explorers reached base in five of the seven innings of the second game but couldn't bring home any more runs as they ultimately fell 2-1.

Aughton threw a complete game for the Explorers in game two going 6.0 innings allowing only the pair of runs while recording three strikeouts. Senior Linnette Siedler and sophomores Christina Bascara and Mackenzie Obert all had multiple hits in the second game.

La Salle and Saint Louis close out their series on Sunday afternoon with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
