PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle softball team dropped fell 6-4, 6-2 to Dayton in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Christina Bascara and junior
Erica Reis each recorded two RBIs on the day.
Reis knocked a two run homer and game one while sophomore
Michelle Hagarty and freshman
Bridgett Magee recorded solo homers in game two. Magee's homer was her first career hit in just her second career at bat.
Dayton (36-12, 19-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first game taking advantage of one hit and an error in the first inning.
La Salle came charging back scoring four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-1 lead. Reis homered to left field with no outs to bring home senior
Alicia Aughton who had walked to start off the inning. Bascara would later double with two outs to bring home senior Kristen Travers and Hagarty who had reached on a walk and error respectively.
The Flyers answered right back in the top of the third scoring two runs on three hits to cut the lead to 4-3.
Things would stay this way until the top of the third inning. Junior
Mary Cate Scott recorded three straight outs in the fourth, and fifth and only allowed a walk in the sixth to give La Salle a one run lead heading to the final inning.
Dayton exploded for three runs in the seventh inning and La Salle was unable to answer to take game one 6-4. Scott threw 4.2 innings allowing no earned runs and recording one strikeout but taking the loss.
Game two again saw Dayton jump out to a lead this time taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. The Flyers used four hits to grab two runs but it could have been worse, freshman
McKenzie Peace was able to strand the bases loaded to limit the damage done in the third.
The Explorers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Hagarty homered to center field with two outs to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Dayton would go on to add a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh inning and La Salle couldn't keep pace ultimately falling 6-2.
Magee recorded for the Explorers other run in the sixth inning when she hit a pinch hit homer.
Hagarty went 2-5 on the day with two runs scored and a RBI.
La Salle returns to action tomorrow as they close out the regular season with a noon matchup against the Flyers.
