PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle field hockey team bested Ball State on Sunday in a non-conference game at Ball State. The Explorers topped the Cardinals 3-1 for the team's second win of the weekend. La Salle's record now stands at 7-7 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Ball State opened up  scoring five minutes into the first half with a goal from Lexi Kavanaugh to put the Cardinal's up 1-0. La Salle quickly answered with a shot from sophomore
Logan Oh just two minutes later at 7:26 into play. With thge unassisted goal, Oh tallied her fourth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.Â
Mackenzie Karcher soon put the Explorers ahead with a goal off a penalty stroke after she was fouled in the circle. Karcher followed up her own goal just ten minutes later at 30:57 into play to score again for La Salle. The sophomore shot the ball into the cage off a deflection from Ball State's goalie, Jordan Dues. Karcher tallied her second and third goals of 2016 on Sunday afternoon.
With an exciting first half closing at 3-1, the second half went scoreless to give La Salle a victory.
Goalkeeper
Rachel Hartman posted eight saves in the game and averaged a .889 save percentage.
La Salle will resume conference competition against UMass at Hank DeVincent Field on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1:00 PM.
