ORLANDO- The La Salle softball team dropped a pair of decisions on day one of the UCF Tournament at the UCF Softball Complex on Friday night.
Game one saw La Salle fall to North Florida by a score of 9-1 in a five inning contest. The Ospreys jumped out to a 4-0 lead after grabbing a single run in both the first and third innings and a pair of runs in the second.
The Explorers grabbed one back in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-1. Sophomore
Valerie Pineiro drew a two out walk to start off the rally in the fourth. Freshman
Emma Schweigert drew a walk and advanced Pineiro to second. Senior
Erica Reis knocked in Pineiro on an infield single.
North Florida rebounded quickly, striking for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish things off with a score of 9-1. La Salle also threatened in the second inning when Pineiro singled through the left side and Schweigert drew a one out walk. But the Explorers couldn't bring the pair home.
Game two saw the Explorers fall 9-0 to No. 25 UCF. The Knights scored five runs in the fourth as well as three in the second and one in the first to drop the Explorers.
La Salle had a pair of hits during the second game with juniors
Mackenzie Obert and
Christina Bascara each recording one hit.
Junior
Val Buehler had the best day in the circle of the four Explorers who pitched. Buehler threw three innings against North Florida allowing only a pair of runs and four hits.
La Salle returns to action tomorrow as they face Middle Tennessee State and LIU Brooklyn beginning at 11 a.m.
