PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's basketball team has announced that it will join the many college basketball teams around the country in helping to raise money for Hurricane relief efforts.
The Explorers will travel to South Orange, N.J., to face Seton Hall for an exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 2. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Walsh Gym, Seton Hall's on-campus basketball facility. All net proceeds from the event will go to United for Puerto Rico, to aid relief efforts after the island was devastated by the effects of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.
"We are grateful to join college basketball's and our nation's hurricane relief efforts," head coach
Dr. John Giannini said. "These games collectively across the country will have a significant impact. From a basketball perspective, game experience against a preseason Top 25 team on the road is tremendous preparation for our challenging schedule."
Seton Hall is ranked No. 23 in the USA Today Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, along with three teams that are a part of La Salle's non-league slate (Villanova - No. 6; Miami - No. 12; Northwestern - No. 20). The Pirates went 21-12 a season ago and earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.
General admission tickets will be made available to the public for $20 and will go on sale on Thursday, October 26 at 10:00 a.m. Fans can purchase tickets either by calling (973) 275-4255 or by visiting the Seton Hall Athletics ticket office in person. On gameday, there will also be a table in the Walsh Gym lobby that will accept in-person donations. The game will not be televised or streamed online.
United for Puerto Rico is an initiative brought forth by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, in collaboration with the private sector, with the purpose of providing aid and support to those affected in Puerto Rico by the passage of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane María. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to helping the victims affected by these natural disasters in Puerto Rico.
