PHILADELPHIA- A high-scoring contest in Washington, D.C. saw the La Salle field hockey team edged in the team's final game of the season against Georgetown in a 4-5 score.
The teams traded goals in the action-packed first half, with Georgetown jumping ahead just three minutes into play. The Explorers were quick to equalize the score.
Jess Hoffman sent the ball over the freshman
Rialee Allen, who shot the ball beyond Hoya goalkeeper Chloe Verwiel. Allen scored her second goal of the weekend with the shot at 14:46.
The Hoyas fired back with two goals at 16:54 and 20:45 for a 3-1 advantage over the Explorers. Allen then netted a second goal as La Salle fought back, scoring just four minutes after Georgetown's third goal.
Georgetown again surged ahead with a fourth goal, only to be answered by
Mackenzie Karcher with three minutes remaining in the first half.
Logan Oh tallied her second assist on the week when she sent the ball to Karcher, who notched her 10th goal of the season.
La Salle opened the second half with a goal from
April Stein off a pass from Allen just two minutes into play as the team staged a comeback. With the score equalized at 4-4, the Hoyas slipped past La Salle with a goal at 50 minutes into play.
The teams battled it out for another 20 minutes on Cooper Field, but La Salle could not fight past the Hoyas despite a pair of shots from Oh and
Amber Blackshear.
With the loss, the team ends its season 9-8 and 3-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
