PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University Department of Athletics is saddened by the recent loss of 1969 graduate and former men's basketball standout Roland "Fatty" Taylor, who passed away earlier this week. Taylor had been battling breast cancer since 2000.
A two-year member of the Explorers from 1967-69, Taylor was considered the Big 5's top guard during his two seasons. While with the Explorers, he scored 464 points, dished out 169 assists, and helped the 1968-69 team to a 23-1 record and a No. 2 national ranking in the final Associated Press poll.
Taylor would go on to play seven seasons in the American Basketball Association and one year in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets. A two-time member of the ABA's All-Defensive First Team, the 6-0 guard was later inducted into the La Salle Hall of Athletes in 1979 and the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 2004.
Details on service arrangements will be announced when available.
