AMHERST, Mass. – Michelle Hagarty hit her 27th career home run to tie the all-time program record in a La Salle (19-23, 7-12 A-10) win in the opening game of the series at Massachusetts (23-20, 11-4 A-10) on Saturday afternoon at Sortino Field. Hagarty hit the game-tying homer in the 6th inning in the comeback victory for La Salle. The homer tied her with Megan Hodgson for the all-time program record.

Mackenzie Obert then nailed a two-run homer to cap a three-run 6th and put La Salle in the lead for good. McKenzie Peace (W, 6-3) pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn the win. UMass scored in the 7th to get within a run before Peace stranded the tying run at 2nd to end the game.

La Salle got out to a 1-0 lead on a Christina Bascara single in the 1st before UMass scored twice in the 3rd and once more in the 4th to take a lead. The Explorers tied it in the 5th when Bascara was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Taylor Rohrbaugh hit a sac fly.

UMass regained the lead in their half of the 6th to set the stage for the late game heroics.
