BROOKLYN, N.Y. - La Salle University men's basketball standout
Pookie Powell was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Second Team, it was announced by the league in advance of its media day at Barclays Center on Thursday.
Powell, who was
granted a waiver in August by the NCAA to be eligible for competition at La Salle this year, averaged 16.9 points and 4.3 assists per game in 2017-18. The dynamic 6-0 guard scored in double figures 28 times a season ago, including eight 20-plus point efforts. He scored a career-high 30 points at Massachusetts and posted 29 points on two separate occasions.
The #A10MBB Preseason Poll was also announced, with La Salle picked to finish 12th. The Explorers received 85 points, and are positioned ahead of George Washington and Fordham.
Saint Louis garnered 15 first-place votes and is the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic 10, while Sain Joseph's earned four first-place ballots and is slated to finish second. Davidson (six first-place votes) and George Mason (one) round out the top four.
