BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The La Salle softball team lost twice on the opening day of the Camel Stampede, dropping games to Fairfield and Campbell.
Game 1: Fairfield 6, La Salle 0
The Stags got a run on the board in the 1
st and then added five more in the 3
rd against
Marlo Roadcap (L, 0-1). Only three of the runs charged to the lefty were earned after a one-out error on a sacrifice fly in the 3rd.
Freshman
Morgan Orlowski held Fairfield scoreless over the final four innings but La Salle couldn't get the bats going against Lauryn Rhinehart (W, 1-0), who tossed seven shutout innings.
Jackie Heim had a pair of hits for the Blue and Gold.
Game 2: Campbell 7, La Salle 0
The Camels scored in the 1
st inning to take a 1-0 lead but
Reilly Gearhart (L, 0-1) then held them scoreless for the next three innings. Campbell added a pair of runs in the 5
th and four more in the 6
th to take control of the game.
The final line against Gearhart was seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks. The righty fanned six over six frames.
Lexy Head (W, 2-2) was excellent for Campbell, holding La Salle scoreless over seven innings on three hits and a walk while striking out six.
Angelina Refice,
Ashley Mendenhall and
Emily Conaway all had base hits for the Explorers.
La Salle had runners in scoring position in the 3
rd, 4
th and 5
th innings but couldn't find the timely hit. The Explorers play twice on Saturday, against Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. and then Campbell at 5:30.
