La Salle Drops DH at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The La Salle softball team (9-19, 2-6 A-10) lost both games of a doubleheader with the Dayton Flyers (16-19, 7-4 A-10) on Sunday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.

Game 1: Dayton 3, La Salle 2
The Flyers scored a run in the 5th and another in the 6th to erase a 2-1 La Salle lead and take the victory in the first game of the twin bill.

The Explorers tied the game at 1-1 in the 5th on a double steal, with Emma Schweigert taking second and Marissa Ewald stealing home on the throw. Bridget Magee then singled down the left field line to give La Salle a one-run lead.

Reilly Gearhart (L, 5-5) pitched all six innings for the Blue and Gold, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out three.

Jessica Weaver (W, 3-7) threw a complete game for Dayton, striking out a career-high 12 while scattering eight hits and a walk.

Game 2: Dayton 10, La Salle 2
UD took a 4-0 lead over the first three innings before La Salle got two runs back in the 4th. Jackie Heim laced a double to score Taylor Rohrbaugh before a Bridget Magee sac fly made it a two-run game.

The Flyers, however, scored four runs in the home half of the 4th and added a run in the 5th to induce the run rule. Marlo Roadcap (L, 3-11) surrendered seven runs on nine hits and three walks before exiting with two outs in the 4th.

Morgan Orlowski got the final out in the 4th, but not before allowing a two-run homer to Dayton's Julia Blarr. Dayton then added a run on three hits and an error in the 5th against Orlowski to end the game.

The Explorers play a doubleheader at Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday.
