DAYTON, Ohio – The La Salle softball team (9-19, 2-6 A-10) lost both games of a doubleheader with the Dayton Flyers (16-19, 7-4 A-10) on Sunday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium.
Game 1: Dayton 3, La Salle 2
The Flyers scored a run in the 5
th and another in the 6
th to erase a 2-1 La Salle lead and take the victory in the first game of the twin bill.
The Explorers tied the game at 1-1 in the 5th on a double steal, with
Emma Schweigert taking second and
Marissa Ewald stealing home on the throw.
Bridget Magee then singled down the left field line to give La Salle a one-run lead.
Reilly Gearhart (L, 5-5) pitched all six innings for the Blue and Gold, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out three.
Jessica Weaver (W, 3-7) threw a complete game for Dayton, striking out a career-high 12 while scattering eight hits and a walk.
Game 2: Dayton 10, La Salle 2
UD took a 4-0 lead over the first three innings before La Salle got two runs back in the 4
th.
Jackie Heim laced a double to score
Taylor Rohrbaugh before a
Bridget Magee sac fly made it a two-run game.
The Flyers, however, scored four runs in the home half of the 4
th and added a run in the 5
th to induce the run rule.
Marlo Roadcap (L, 3-11) surrendered seven runs on nine hits and three walks before exiting with two outs in the 4
th.
Morgan Orlowski got the final out in the 4
th, but not before allowing a two-run homer to Dayton's Julia Blarr. Dayton then added a run on three hits and an error in the 5
th against Orlowski to end the game.
The Explorers play a doubleheader at Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday.
