Volleyball Falls to Towson, 3-1, in First Match of Invitational

TOWSON, Md. – The La Salle University volleyball team (6-5) fell to Towson, 3-1, on the opening day of the Towson Invitational Friday. The loss snaps the Explorers' five-match winning streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Towson defense proved difficult for the Explorers to overcome in game one, as they struggled to pick up points despite continuous attempts at the net.
  • An attack error decided the opening set in Towson's favor taking the set, 25-20.
  • The Explorers fought to retaliate in the game two but were met with resistance from the Tigers.
  • La Salle took an aggressive approach in game three, taking control by a 23-16 margin after five straight points.
  • Junior Kathryn Wood set up a kill for classmate Devin Corah to clinch the game, 25-20, pulling La Salle to within a game.
  • Game four saw the Tigers make a six-point run to take control, eventually defeating the Explorers, 25-16, and taking the match, 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Corah led the match in kills (15).
  • Towson went 27-6 last year, advancing to the NVIC National Tournament, and has won 50 matches over the last two years.
  • Wood and Catherine Edgington registered three blocks each.
  • Wood also posted 36 assists for the second match in a row.
UP NEXT 
  • The Explorers will remain in Baltimore another night to continue competition in the Towson Invitational.
  • The second day of the tournament will see La Salle take on UMBC at 10:30 a.m. and Ball State at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
