PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University field hockey team squared off against one of the top teams in the country and put forth a tremendous effort in a 4-2 loss to No. 13 Saint Joseph's at Hank DeVincent Field on Thursday. Freshman
Samie Hackman and junior
Rialee Allen each scored for the Explorers, who conclude their season with a 7-11 record and 3-5 in Atlantic 10 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks (15-2, 8-0 A-10) jumped out to a quick start, scoring twice within the first 6:19 to take a 2-0 lead.
- From that point forward, the Explorers played the nationally-ranked foe to a stalemate, scoring twice and pulling to within a goal on two separate occassions.
- Hackman tipped home a goal off an assist from senior Amanda Chapin in the 11th minute to pull La Salle to within 2-1 in the first quarter.
- The helper was the 11th of the season for Chapin, who moved into a tie for third place on the school's single-season list with Beth Carey (2009).
- SJU moved back in front by a pair in the early portion of the second quarter, before the Explorers fought back again.
- Just past the 20-minute mark, Allen deflected a shot past St. Joe's goalkeeper Victoria Kammerinke to put the score at 3-2.
- The score remained the same until the 38:10 mark when Carolina Boxer re-upped the margin to two.
- La Salle goalkeeper Cassie Kincaid kept her team within striking distance the rest of the contest, registering four of her 12 saves in the final period, but the Explorers couldn't get much traction offensively as the Hawks finished the A-10 season with a perfect 8-0 record.
