BUIES CREEK, N.C. – La Salle softball (0-2) struggled to hit and field in the Campbell Invitational, falling to Fairfield (1-1), 10-1, and Campbell (3-9), 6-0, on Sunday. Freshmen

Mackenzie Vogler notched the only hits for the Explorers – the first of both their careers.
FAIRFIELD 10, LA SALLE 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Explorers took the early lead in the bottom of the first as sophomore Ashley Mendenhall reached on an error by the third basemen, which resulted in junior Emily Conaway coming in to score.
- Fairfield took the lead in the top half of the fourth. The Stags plated three unearned runs on two hits and two Explorer errors.
- The Stags added seven runs in the top of the sixth to seal the game. Fairfield scored on six hits and two errors.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski (0-1) got the opening day start. The West Chester, Pa. native threw 5.2 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits with four earned runs. She struck out three on the day.
- Freshman Cailey Joyce came on in relief, pitching the final out of the inning for La Salle. The rookie gave up three runs on three hits and notched her first career strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Campbell jumped out to a 3-0 lead after plating two in the first and launching a solo shot in the second.
- The Camels extended their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, adding one run in the fifth and two in the sixth.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Joyce made her first career start and pitched six innings and gave up six runs, three earned runs, and 10 hits on the game. She struck out four batters and walked one.
