PHILADELPHIA – Freshman
Audrey LaBouliere registered a career high four RBIs, however the La Salle softball team (5-16) couldn't sustain a seventh inning comeback against Villanova (16-15) on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats claimed the win, 8-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Villanova jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first two and a half innings after it scored a run in each of the Wildcats first three innings.
- La Salle answered in the home half of the third as LaBouliere ripped a single to drive in junior Emily Conaway and freshman Kaylee Piven.
- The Wildcats added a run on a solo homer in the fourth to push their lead to 4-2.
- The Explorers rallied in the bottom half of the fourth with a four-run inning. Sophomore Deanna Pineiro plated senior Emma Schweigert with a single. Freshman Cailey Joyce ripped a double to right center to score Pineiro from second. LaBouliere finished the scoring with a two-run single down the left field line.
- Nova responded with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to take an 8-6 lead heading into the final at bats for the home squad.
- Junior Courtney Shupp sent a one-out solo shot to right field to pull La Salle within one, but the Explorers couldn't muster up another run.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski (2-8) received the decision after pitching six innings and allowing three earned on nine hits and a walk. The West Chester, Pa. native struck out three on the afternoon.
- Joyce entered to pitch the final inning and gave up one run on a hit and a walk.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- LaBouliere finished the day 2-for-3 from the plate with the four RBIs and a walk.
- Shupp went 2-for-3 on the afternoon scoring a run on the homer.
- Joyce was also 2-for-3 with double, RBI, and run scored.
- Conaway, Pineiro, and Schweigert all registered one hit and a run scored.
- Piven touched home twice.
UP NEXT:
La Salle welcomes St. Bonaventure to West Campus Field for the first home conference series of the season. The teams will play a double header on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
