ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Former La Salle University men's basketball player Romaine Haywood will be inducted into the Atlantic City High School Hall of Fame in a ceremony at Stockton University on Saturday, May 18.
Haywood played for the Explorers from 1993-96, scoring 1,083 points during his collegiate career. A Second Team All-Philadelphia Big 5 and Third Team All-Atlantic 10 selection as a senior, he averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game to lead the team in both categories. Prior to that, he earned Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Newcomer Team accolades after scoring 10.3 points and pulling down 6.5 boards per contest during his freshman campaign.
The 6-6 guard was a high school standout in Atlantic City, leading the Vikings to a remarkable 29-1 record during the 1991-92 season. That season, he averaged 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, and scored 25 points as Atlantic City defeated Middle Township, 74-59, to win the Cape-Atlantic League title. Haywood was a McDonald's All-America nominee and named Team MVP.
The induction will be held in the Fannie Lou Hamer Event Room at the Atlantic City campus of Stockton University on May 18, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5.
