PHILADELPHIA – Prior to Saturday's doubleheader against George Washington, the La Salle softball team recognized seniors
Emma Schweigert and
Marlo Roadcap. The Explorers (12-33, 5-17 A-10) fell 7-2 and 6-4 during the twin bill against the Colonials (37-15, 15-7 A-10).
GW 7, La SALLE 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Colonials jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Explorers found the scoreboard. GW plated three in the first, one in the second and two in the fourth.
- In the home half of the sixth, Schweigert sent a triple down the right field line to score freshman Kaylee Piven from second.
- GW added an insurance run in the seventh to push the game to 7-1.
- Freshman Cailey Joyce hit a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh for her team high seven long balls on the season.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Roadcap (0-3) got the nod in the circle and faced three batters. She hit two and walked the other and eventually was credited with the three earned runs.
- Joyce entered in relief and pitched four innings where she allowed just one earned run and struck out five.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run, while striking out three.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Joyce paced the Explorers at the plate with a pair of hits in three trips with the homer, an RBI, and a run.
- Schweigert and Piven had the home team's other two hits. The senior tripled and the rookie reached on a bunt.
GW 6, La SALLE 4
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- GW scored two in the second to take a 2-0 lead on one hit and a pair of errors.
- La Salle answered in the bottom half when junior Courtney Shupp drilled a solo dinger to center field.
- The Colonials added two more in the third on one hit and a pair of walks.
- The Blue and Gold scored one in the home portion of the third as Schweigert doubled in freshman Audrey LaBouliere.
- The visitors had a sac fly in the fifth to plate their fifth run.
- La Salle scored two more in the sixth when freshman Natalie Rios hit her first career homer. The two-run blast scored Shupp.
- GW added one in the seventh on a solo jack.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
- Orlowski (4-16) tallied the loss in 2.1 innings of work. She walked two and struck out two, allowing four earned runs to score.
- Joyce finished the final 4.2 innings. She set down two on strikes and gave up six hits and two walks for two earned.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- LaBouliere had a pair of hits, a run scored, and a stolen base.
- Rios became the fourth La Salle rookie to hit a homer this season.
- Schweigert had the RBI double and a walk.
- Shupp finished 1-for-2 with the home run, a walk, two runs, and an RBI.
