Buckley’s Two Goals Lead Explorers to 3-1 Home Win over Robert Morris

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore newcomer Nigel Buckley scored the first two collegiate goals of his career to lead the La Salle University men's soccer team to its second home win of the season on Saturday, 3-1, over Robert Morris from McCarthy Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buckley wasted no time in registering the first goal of the match, converting his first tally in a La Salle uniform in the third minute, with sophomores Sam DeCencio and Ike Hollinger earning assists on the play.
  • Hollinger then knocked in his first collegiate goal as well just moments later in the eighth minute to push the Explorers ahead 2-0 early on.
  • Robert Morris got right back into it just before halftime, however, as Christopher Coridon scored on a corner from Cristian Palermo in the 39th minute to cut the La Salle lead in half.
  • After nearly 40 straight scoreless minutes, Buckley put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game in the 79th minute on another assist from DeCencio.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • La Salle dominated with possession, holding a steep 24-7 shot advantage. The home squad also held a 9-4 shot on goal advantage.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Brett Werner made three saves to earn his second victory of the season in net.
  • Buckley put the pressure on all day, piling up six shots, while fellow sophomore Omari Cotterell took five shots and junior Aidan O'Brien took three. DeCencio tallied his first two assists of the year, while Hollinger notched his first three points of the season.
